Greg, Brat, GBRT, Arts, Destruction, Painting

Greg Brat aka GBRT (real name Grzegorz Tomczyk) was born in 1976 in Olsztyn, Poland. He studied painting at the Faculty of Arts at University of Maria Curie Sklodowska in Lublin and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź. He defended master’s thesis under the supervision of prof. Mikołaj Dawidziuk with an silkscreen annex made under the supervision of prof. Andrzej Smoczyński. In 2022 he received degree of Doctor in Fine Arts. Since 2008 he has been a teacher of Drawing and Painting at the School of Fine Arts in Lublin. From the moment of graduation, Greg Brat remains professionally active and has participated in many exhibitions, mainly in Poland.

The main area of his artistic interests is widely understood destruction. The idea behind the destruction is to be understood as an act of creation, where through the actions on the still matter - its fall and disintegration - reveals a new order and shows an entirely new approach to understanding. He explores its borders searching for the very moment in which destruction becomes the creation, however, not an attempted one, but an incidental one which occurs due to reaching the borders. Greg Brat is one of the very few artists in Poland who work with the concept of destruction as a process and as a tool to reveal the true nature of the modern world.

The artist deals with painting, mixed media, photography, video installation.
